KAILUA-KONA — Responders transported a 2-year-old girl to Kona Community Hospital early Monday afternoon after an incident at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Kailua-Kona, according to traffic heard over the police scanner frequency.
The child was pulled unresponsive from the hotel pool, according to police chatter. Hawaii County Police Department officers at the scene declined to provide specific details, citing departmental policy. Subsequent attempts to obtain further information from HPD and the Hawaii Fire Department via telephone were unsuccessful.
However, a West Hawaii Today reporter overheard a conversation between a hotel employee and an incoming guest that indicated the child’s parents had accompanied the girl in the ambulance to the hospital. The conversation went on to indicate the female employee of the hotel had played a role in reviving the child and that the child had survived the incident.
The employee declined comment, citing official hotel policy. Several bystanders who were witness to the incident as it occurred and in the aftermath also declined to speak on the record.
